Submitting FOIA/Privacy Act Requests to the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA)
You have
reached the FHFA Headquarters FOIA/Privacy Act Request Portal for the
submission of FOIA and Privacy Act requests. Members of the public may
use this portal to submit requests or check the status of previously
submitted requests. Do not file a FOIA/Privacy appeal
through this Portal. FOIA/Privacy Act appeals are properly filed via
email (foia@fhfa.gov) as instructed in FHFA’s final response and on the FHFA FOIA/Privacy Act webpage.

Before you submit a request, note the following:
The FOIA is
only intended to provide access to existing records. The FOIA does not
require an agency to create records to respond to a request nor does it
apply to publicly available information. Prior to submitting a request,
please browse the FHFA FOIA Reading Room and search FHFA’s website for the information you are seeking.
Under the
Privacy Act, a request can be made by an individual who is the subject
of the records or information that is contained in a system of records
or by another individual on behalf of an individual. If not known by the
FHFA Privacy Act Officer, the requesting individual, whether acting on
behalf of themselves or on behalf of another individual, must have their
identity verified by providing the following:
- Two forms of unexpired identification with
photographs issued by a federal, state, or local government agency or
entity (i.e., passport, passport card, driver's license, ID card, etc.);
or
- One form of unexpired identification with a
photograph issued by a federal, state, or local government agency or
entity (i.e., passport, passport card, driver's license, ID card, etc.)
and a properly authenticated birth certificate.
If the PA
request is made by mail, the requesting individual’s signature must
either be notarized or include the following statement just before the
requesting individual’s signature on the Request letter: “I declare (or
certify, verify, or state) under penalty of perjury that the foregoing
is true and correct. Executed on [date]. [Signature].”
Submitting a request:
When submitting a FOIA/PA request, please include the following:
- Specific search terms that are not general in nature
- Time frame of when the record(s) were created or the date of the record(s)
- Names of individuals, offices and/or systems of records you believe might have the requested information
